Sakaja Fires Mosiria in County Reshuffle
By Mary Wavinya,

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has dismissed Geoffrey Mosiria from his position as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service in a reshuffle affecting three senior county officials.
The changes, announced on October 21, 2026 in a notice signed by County Secretary Machel Waikenda, take effect immediately. Zipporah Njeri Mwangi has been appointed acting chief officer for public participation and citizen engagement while retaining her current role in City Culture, Arts and Tourism.
The reshuffle also sees Samwel Njogu take up the acting position of Chief Officer for Mobility, while Godfrey Akumali will oversee the Lands department in an acting capacity alongside his current responsibilities in Housing and Urban Renewal.
Mosiria’s dismissal comes just ten days after he declared his intention to challenge the Nairobi county governor Sakaja for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. An announcement he had made on October 11, 2026 during a church service at Jesus Is Alive Ministries in Nairobi, where he expressed confidence in his ability to lead the capital.
The former chief officer had previously served in the county’s health and environment departments before being transferred to public participation and citizen engagement in November 2025. He gained public attention through his environmental enforcement activities, particularly operations targeting illegal dumping and other violations in the city.
Following his dismissal, Mosiria accused the governor of sidelining him for nearly three years, claiming that his responsibilities and budget had been reduced after disagreements over the management of public funds.
“Thank you, my boss, for making my sacking official, however, what you forgot to tell Nairobi residents and Kenyans is that you effectively dismissed me on 28th December 2023, when you took away my constitutionally assigned mandate as an Accounting Officer and handed it to my junior officers,” said Mosiria.
He alleged that he had effectively lost his authority long before the official announcement of that he was fired. These claims are Mosiria’s allegations and have not been independently established.
