For decades, the Kenya Music Festival (KMF) has served as the country’s premier search for youth talent.

However, it shares a frustratingly predictable ending: curtains close, winners raise plastic trophies and students go back to regular school life with no clear bridge into the commercial world.

Equity intends to change this narrative. In its second consecutive year of major sponsorship, the financial institution has injected KSh 25 million into the 2026 Kenya Music Festival.

This is specifically aimed at transforming raw student performances into entertainment that’s lifelong careers.

The investment signals a major strategic shift in how the corporate world in Kenya interacts with school art festivals, moving away from handouts and towards structured industry incubation.

Speaking on behalf of Equity Group Managing Director James Mwangi, the bank’s Head of Education, Peter Ndoro, laid bare the economic gap that previously affected the festival.
